RISE OF THE GEEK - OWNER PAUL DRAKE

When it comes down to it, we just love helping small businesses to grow. We know how hard it is to build a business in today's marketplace. The Internet means that suddenly you have hundreds of competitors, instead of just a few in your local area. A few short years ago we were in exactly the same place.

Having spent over 30 years working for ungrateful bosses and suffering endless office politics, I had to get out. So, I understand people’s motivation for going it alone - to work on something for themselves, not to line some faceless shareholders’ pockets.

But spending all of those years trying to explain complex technical concepts to dim senior managers has paid off. It's left me with near-endless patience and the ability to de-tech ideas. One of my clients described me as "the friendly face of geek" - a description which I'm quite proud of!

You see, I’ve always been a bit of a geek. I love science fiction and technology (I’m the original “gadget boy”). If you want to get into my good books, try to out-geek me on Babylon 5. Never heard of it? It was a five season TV series from the late 1990s, and one of the best sci-fi shows ever made (IMHO). Check it out - and see if you can spot how Babylon 5 has influenced my business.

My other passions are (in no particular order of preference, but shown left to right) fencing Epee (seen here having won a bronze medal at the Carrickfergus Open); my family (my wife Jacky and our two cats, Merlin and Poppy) and cookery.

I can talk endlessly about any of these things!
